Karina has a mantra she surrounds herself with at work and believes wholeheartedly in across all areas of her life. That mantra is leading with love.
A few years ago, Karina was diagnosed as having a 7cm brain lesion and she lives with the tumour to this day. At one point she was told she’d never walk or talk again. Only due to her immense resilience, determination, persistance and tenacity was she able to re-train her brain and regain full function.
Karina has recently started her own IT consulting business, and lives a full and balanced life today with her two sons whom she adores. She has degrees in teaching, arts, science and wrote a thesis on music as a language.
In high School Karina played the Tuba and was forced to practice in the cleaning supplies room – as although we had a darkroom at Sydney Girls High School, we had no designated space for music practice! Karina remains passionate about music to this day, although she hasn’t played in a long time. When it comes to the future, I personally believe it’s a case of never say never though, as this woman is unstoppable.
I really enjoyed talking to Karina, and I love a good ‘overcoming’ story where someone learns and grows from events that seem like catastrophic initially. These stories strongly resonate with me and I’ve been so fortunate to capture quite a few of them in this podcast series.
In her spare time (which there isn’t much of for most of us these days!) Karina pours her creativity into food preparing, making art and she even learned how to crochet during covid!
